The Hi - Lo Limit Omaha $1100 buy in at The Aussie Millions Poker Champion attracted a field of 102 players. The tournament lasted a whopping 17 hours. The combination of a tough field, split pots and the fixed limit structure considerably effected the length.
The last hand was played early hours of the morning making it a true marathon tournament . The player taking down the last pot was Mel Judah. He takes home with him the $30,600.00 in prize money and the gold championship ring.
Judah had a considerably tough field that included 2008 Aussie Millions Main Event champion Alexander Kostritsyn, Tony G, WSOP Main Event runner-up Ivan Demidov, Sam Khouiss, Jamie Pickering and James Potter.
The final table consisted of 9 seats with chip stacks looking roughly like this:
Seat 1: Rainer Quel (132,000)
Seat 2: Danny Mountt (89,000)
Seat 3: Mark Furniss (10,500)
Seat 4: Mel Judah (109,500)
Seat 5: Derek Raymond (37,000)
Seat 6: Michael Guzzardi (12,500)
Seat 7: Jeffrey Duvall (36,000)
Seat 8: Billy Argyros (68,500)
Seat 9: Mick Stanton (12,500)
The chip stacks were very short in comparison to the blinds, so the players started getting eliminated quickly. Mick "the Hoon" Stanton was the first to fall when Danny Mountt called him down on every street to send him packing. Michael Guzzardi short stacked, busted in eighth place at the hands of Mel Judah. Mark Furniss busted next at the hands of Derek Raymond coming in 7th place. Sixth place went to the famous Billy "The Croc" Argyros who in the end of his time went all in pre flop.
The time between eliminations shrank as quickly as the field. It took very little time after Argyros' exit for Danny Mountt to bust in fifth place. Derek Raymond was next player to go all in pre flop and also go packing. He exited as the fourth place finisher. Duvall found himself cornered by Mel Judah almost immediately after busting Raymond, and busted in third place shortly thereafter.
The blinds were huge in relation to the chip stacks for the headsup match taking more then 2 hours for Mel Judah and Rainier Quel to play out. Quel started off with almost a 4:1 chip lead, but Judah came back time and again before almost ending the tournament with 1 big hand. The last of Quels chips went into the pot in the next hand where he was defeated by Mel Judah and his full house of 9's and k's.
