Along with game producers Gameloft, Gus Hansen has developed the poker game for mobile phones, "Million Dollar Poker feat. Gus Hansen", and the promotion of the game the past week took Gus to London.
In London, Gus entertained the guest by telling his story behind the game and then he took part in a special VIP tournament for some of the invitees. The first prize was an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas, but most of the guest seemed to care very little for the first prize. It was the chance of playing one of the most famous poker players in the world that really got people going.
Prior to the tournament Gus had been signing some Full Tilt Decks, and the autographed playing cards blew people away. Just how big Gus Hansen is out there is really amazing, and the true scale is only properly understood, when you see how the crowd reacts to this guy.
One guest wasn't about to roll over for "The Great Dane" though. Not at the table and not anywhere else.
And Gus did make an effort to land himself a bit of special attention from this French chick - a Gameloft employee based in London - but he was getting nothing but smiles and ... well not much more.
Instead the two of them were duelling in every other pot, and it was obvious that one of them would bust the other sooner or later.
Gus might have been trying to score on his charm off the table, but at the felt there's usually no mercy, and it seemed likely that the French chick would be at the wrong end of a Gus move pretty soon.
When the hand finally came, Gus looked down at
Action is folded around to our French girl seated immediately to the left of Gus, and she calls from her small blind.
Gus the raises it up from the big blind - not too much though. He wanted her along for the ride.
And she jumped at another shot at the poker star.
Flop then comes:
French Chick checks, and Gus checks behind her.
Turn:
Now the French girl bets, and Gus immediately moves all-in and gets an equally immediate call.
Gus flips over his Aces, and with a huge grin the girl then turns over first one and then the other card to reveal:
No help for Gus on the blank river, and his Aces are cracked by the Two Pair of the French girl. Gus got up, shook hands all around and with a big smile wished everyone the best of luck.
Unfortunately for the girl who busted Gus, she eventually lost in heads-up against some bald guy, who's heading for Vegas now.
