Rumors have been swirling around online poker forums about Kings involvement in the Bong Scandal.
Ever since the photo was published in early February of Olympic champion Michael Phelps, smoking the now infamous bong during a party, it has brought about many rumors and extreme controversy. The Sun has reported that there have been eight arrests at the house where the party was held, even though the raids produced only a small amount of marijuana. Sources say that the raids were overdramatized, with guns drawn and kicking in doors, only to find marijuana that would amount to about the size of a cigarette.
The Richland County Sheriff Department is getting a lot of heat from causing the amount of attention that it has brought to Phelps. While they admit that holding a bong in a picture is not a crime, they felt compelled as officers of the law to do what they thought would be right, however unpopular. The Sheriff was quoted as saying that if he had done nothing, it could possibly have been sending a message of tolerance.
WIS News 10 has reported that the investigators
have charged seven of the USC students with drug possession and the
eighth with a distribution charge. New facts, as well as rumors, are
emerging daily and the latest one is that the professional and successful
poker player Zachery "Carter" King is one of the participants
of the party that were arrested. Not only a participant, but he also
said to be the owner of the bong that has attempted to sell it on the
internet's biggest marketplace, eBay. King won the Poker Stars World
Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Main Event in 2008 which has netted
the 23 year old approximately $1.3 million.
The television station has now reported that the bong has been located and was confiscated while it was allegedly being sold on eBay. Online sources say that the bong was being sold by King and with a high price tag of $100,000.
While the reigning poker champion was one of the eight that were arrested, there is still confusion to whether or not there was ever an attempt to sell the bong. He was posting in an online forum about the night in question and had said that he was the owner of the bong and curiously asked "how much do you think I could get for it on eBay?" This has now been turned into another sort of chatter within the online poker community.
Using the online alias of "ckingusc" on the most popular poker sites like PokerStars, Bodog, Full Tilt and UB, King has allegedly posted comments relating to the bong that was used at the Columbia party in November. As cited on the PokerAzzo website, there was a post from 'ckingusc' stating the following quote: "fwiw thats my bong at my house. gobbo/psyduck or any other poker guy on SA can confirm. More important, how much u think that bong is worth on ebay?"
Posting on the TwoPlusTwo forum on a
later date, King had replied to a thread that asked if he tried selling
the bong on eBay by saying: 'Were u dropped on your head as a child
or are u intentionally being dense? Either way they should be closing
the case vs. Mike. As far as the charges vs. me, I can't speak about
but the penalties will be very minimal. This entire thing has basically
proven to me that you cannot trust the media or the police if you stand
in the way of their interest. Also fwiw, no I am not dumb enough to
actually try and sell a bong on eBay."
The forum post that is quoted above is said to have been written by Carter King, aka 'ckingusc', but much of the hearsay will be left undetermined for the time being. However, on March 26th, he will have his day in front of the Dentsville magistrate facing a simple possession charge.
No formal charges have been filed thus far against Phelps, but the attention that the photo has brought upon him has cost him immensely. He has been suspended by USA Swimming for a three month period and has lost the backing of some of his supporters, mainly the Kellogg Company. The endorsement deal that Kellogg's had with Phelps will not be renewed as a result of the incident; the opinion given by their media office stated that he does not fit their image. This harsh decision caused many marijuana advocates to explode with indignation and many are in the process of attempting a boycott of the Kellogg Company.| PokerStars T$/W$ Exchange | Free $25/w No Deposit on PartyPoker |
