Crown Casino now has its own poker hall of fame with players inducted at the player welcoming party last night.
Special guests from around the world gathered together to see the inaugural induction of the Australian Poker Hall of Fame. Guests included, Michael Vartan, Joe Hachem, Alexander Kostritsyn, Gus Hansen, Tony G and many, many more.
Jonno Pittock the Director of Poker Relations at Crown Casino, summonsed the guests around and started the induction. In no time the induction had started "The God Father" of Australian poker Mauri Pearce also chairman of the hall of fame having to induct.
The first hall of fame inductee was Billy Argyros, better known by most as "The Croc". Gary Benson was next to be positioned in the Poker Hall of fame. He is the winner of a WSOP bracelet in 1996 in the game of Stud among many other things. A delighted Antanas Guoga "Tony G" was awarded his position in the hall next. Australias own WSOP star Joe Hachem was always going to be in the spotlight after coming 1st in the WSOP main event in 2005, he was next to be inducted. He was followed by Mel Judak who holds 2 WSOP bracelets. Also called "The Ice Man" Jeff Linsandro was the 6th to be inducted. The 7th and apparent last inductee was Lee Nelson.
Crown poker had different ideas and shocked the guests and this person also when they announced an 8th person who was being placed in the hall of fame. Prior to this second only 7 persons were known and named as inductees. "The Aussie Godfather of Poker" Maurie Pearce was called back to the microphone and was ready to again speak unexpectant that he was also being inducted into the poker Hall of Fame. he was the 8th player to accept his award and position.
The night was a great success and was a land mark for Australian Poker.
